The GLP-1 Fast Food Guide: Smaller, Protein-First Orders
If you’re on a GLP-1 medication, your appetite is smaller and your priorities flip. You can’t finish a big meal, so every bite has to earn its place — and that means protein first, moderate calories, and low fat, since higher-fat meals tend to sit heavy and can worsen the nausea a lot of people feel early on.
General nutrition information, not medical advice — follow your clinician’s guidance.
We pulled our 100-chain database of composed fast-food orders — 1,575 meals with verified macros — and filtered it the way a GLP-1 appetite actually shops: at least 20g of protein and no more than 500 calories. 470 orders qualified. Then we sorted by fat, lowest first, and kept the picks that also keep portions modest. Here are the best of them.

Why these work when your appetite is small
Popeyes’ 3-Piece Blackened Tenders is the sleeper pick: 26g of protein in 170 calories with 2g of fat. That is a lot of protein in a portion small enough to actually finish, from a fast-food chain, blackened rather than fried. When two or three bites of a normal meal is your limit, protein density like this is the entire point.
The overall standout — and our #1 pick — is the Buffalo Wild Wings Grilled Chicken Dippers (5 count), no sauce: 61g of protein for 260 calories, with 2g of fat and 0g carbs. Nothing else in the database matches that combination of very high protein, very low fat, and a portion that stays under 300 calories. Grilled, unsauced, and easy on a sensitive stomach. If you can only clear it half, you’ve still had 30g of protein.
The low-fat theme is deliberate
Notice how many of these are grilled or blackened chicken. That’s the shape of a GLP-1-friendly order: lean protein, minimal added fat. Fried food, heavy cheese, and creamy sauces pile on fat that slows digestion — exactly what you’re trying to avoid when a med is already slowing your gut. The Red Robin Simply Grilled Chicken & Broccoli (3g fat, 30g protein, 170 cal) and the El Pollo Loco Grilled Breast & Steamed Vegetables (8g fat, 36g protein) are almost purpose-built for this: grilled protein, steamed vegetable, nothing greasy.
Protein you can drink
When solid food is genuinely unappealing — common in the first days after a dose — a high-protein smoothie can carry the load. The Smoothie King Gladiator Chocolate (20 oz) is 46g of protein, 230 calories, 4g fat, and only 5g carbs. It’s a no-added-sugar protein blend, not a dessert smoothie, so it hits the protein target without the sugar spike that most drive-thru shakes carry. Sip it over an hour and it goes down when a plate won’t.
Practical ordering notes
- Split it, and eat the protein first. Many of these are small already, but if a portion is still too much, eat the chicken or fish before anything else. The protein is the part that matters most and the part that keeps you full.
- Grilled, not fried. Every low-fat pick here is grilled, blackened, or baked. The fried version of the same item can carry three to five times the fat — the exact thing to skip on a GLP-1.
- Watch the sauce. These fat numbers assume no dipping sauce or creamy dressing. A ranch cup or a mayo-based sauce can add 15–25g of fat and undo the whole reason you picked a lean order.
- Diet drinks keep the calorie math honest. Several of these pair with a zero-calorie drink. A regular soda adds sugar and calories your smaller appetite doesn’t need to spend.
The database has 470 orders that clear 20g of protein under 500 calories, and 144 of them keep fat at or below 12g. That’s a wide runway of options that fit a reduced appetite — you don’t have to give up eating out, you just order the leaner, protein-dense version of what’s already on the menu.
Again: this is general nutrition information, not medical advice — follow your clinician’s guidance on protein targets, calories, and anything specific to your treatment.
